ORGANISE AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG ON THE TERRITORY

Are you an archaeologist with the idea of doing research on the territory of Lodève country and Larzac? Make us a part of your project, we strive to boost the scientific current events in our region. We can also accompany you in setting up (technical advice, requests for grants, the loan of material for digs, storage) and help you to promote your results (restoration projects, mainstream publication, temporary exhibitions).

Come and study the collections

The museum can host research students on appointment for the study of its collections.

THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS

The archaeological collections of the museum are conserved in the archaeological deposit of the Carmes chapel in Lodève. It is a shared reserve. It conserves artefacts found in preventative and programmed digs in the region (state collections), private collections of the Lodève country Archaeology Group (GAL) association and the museum’s collections (over 15,000 artefacts). In collaboration with the Regional Archaeology Service (DRAC-Occitanie), the museum also assures the management of the state collections. We can therefore welcome research students in this reserve, for the study of our own collection but also for the study of the collections belonging to the state. The archaeological reserves have been designed to welcome several research students. We have an office with large tables, a photo laboratory and a computer with access to the internet and to our database.

Procedure to follow:

-contact the director of the collections to define your research project and identify the collections concerned,

-contact the Regional Archaeology Service of the DRAC-Occitanie to ask for the authorisation to study these collections (with the list specified),

-fill in the various forms transmitted by the Regional Archaeology Service (request for a study loan, request for publication of photos, request for authorisation to study from an operations director, etc.),

-recontact the director of the collections to programme your location into the database by sending the filled in and signed forms.

Advice to students: make sure to specify your demand (research question, dissertation title, period concerned, type of artefacts].
