Nosferatu, Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari - the mere mention of these films from the 1920s is enough to make any film-goer shudder. This exhibition at the Museum of Lodeve will re-ignite that thrill for you.
Expressionist cinema, strongly influenced by contemporary painting and graphic art, arose in the 1920s to become an art form in its own right. This exhibition places paintings, drawings and engravings by 30 expressionist artists - including A. Macke, E. Heckel, O. Dix, K. Schmidt-Rottluff and E.L. Kirchner - alongside extracts from twelve famous films.
