Fossilised insect wing

The ancestor of our crickets

-275 million years

Discovered in the ruffes of Salagou, this imprint of an insect wing allowed us to reveal a new species: Raphoglarubra. It is the ancestor of our crickets, born in the Permian era, long before the dinosaurs.

This wing is one of sixty insect wings discovered by Jean Lapeyrie in the ruffes of Salagou (Permian era Lodève country).

This work belongs to the collection "Traces of life".

Size of the wing: 3.8cm
